Advanced Reactors, Costs & Rewards | Rachel Slaybaugh | Escaped Sapiens #66
What role should Nuclear Power play in energy production? This episode of the podcast explores the case for Nuclear Energy. I speak with Rachel Slaybaugh, who was an Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Division Director at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She also served as a Program Director at the Department of Energy’s ARPA‑E, where she created the nuclear fission program. She is currently a partner at DCVC. We discuss three of the main problems that people have with nuclear power: (i) The risk of plant meltdowns, (ii) the storage of nuclear waste, and (iii) the expense of setting up new nuclear plants. We also cover the environmental benefits of nuclear as a low carbon energy source, as well as some of the exciting new advanced reactor designs that are coming online right now.

Political propaganda is a race to the bottom of fear induction and attacks on the hip pocket nerves, and the deliberate intention is obfuscation and deceitful labelling of risk that may or probably isn't even probable, it's the fundamentals of Control Fraud and suppression of genuine interest and understanding. People like Rachel are disregarded because they do know and understand the facts in appropriate proportions related to the real science and technology. The kids have to learn from an early age, exactly what is and isn't a genuine problem they will have to observe and resolve.

Older folks also seem so keen to focus on video games when they obviously have no experience in the matter, many successful men do play video games... They problem solve at work and then come home and perhaps problem solve a game, also this discounts the vast area of video games that exist. Not all are about problem solving, and the idea that video games are robbing the world of problem solvers is so ridiculous and out of touch its staggering. There are probably tons of negative effects one could reflect on in games and the effect on the brain, but she has never mentioned a credible one. Not to mention being good at video game could actually bring you positive social status that could provide you with a potential mate depending on your social environment.

Aha! and so we see the real reason she doesn't like MeToo, and this is so true of so many, its because it upset something in her life that that she considered "sacred." Something in her childhood that she consider to be pure was taken from her, and that upset her. Omg.. Like its so obvious, humans are such funny and easily influence-able creatures. This woman like so many older men and women, are anti metoo, despite the fact that the MeToo movement is easily arguable to be a net positive for society, if one cares about preventing grape in a society, which I and hope we all do.

One of Marx goals was to build a scientific fondation to Economics. That's why he started with Dialectical materialism to be able to build some "objective" definition that could help to describe the evolution of societal economic interactions in the know human history. His best known dialectic expression is "Class strugle" between the few people of the "Ruling Class" against the "Working Class" which archeologists use to distiguish between between "civilized" and "non-civilized" societies. Like the famous Mr Spock said "The needs of the many common people should outweight the needs of the few (ruling) elites people. Live long and prosper." And that why the few elite capitalists wanted to promote the neo classical economic religion ("religare" what connect all people) in our higher education system.

    1. CBDC 2. CBDC-backed UBI 3. to avoid hoardings and gains based on these: a ressource tax 4. use the centralized data provided by CBDC (= status of all resources in real time, patterns and trends) for optimizations of resource allocations 5. implement a real competition - that means: innovations / best-practices - and provide gratifications for sharing this knowledge (I'd have a Groupware-CSCW-solution with AI-integration for agile development with reviewsa, assessments and feedbackloops for CIPs at hand, btw ...) Just think what burden was placed on gen x for fist time ever you wasn't competing with neigbors. crimes of the past ,affirmative action ,eqaul opp, mass immigration low wage , cheap Asian labor ,sold off all labor manufacturers ,sold usa locally abroad, farming out electronic industry to South Korea ( Samsung) Taiwan etc etc etc I'm not saying these wasn't warranted but it was passed off screwing over current gens to navigate prior boomers mess. But good news, Urbanization has no future as large gathering labor has no furure demands and this computational plow has already eaten public sector library. Organically 70% of cheap easy knowledge based replication has no future unless they lead us into techno dystopia. Esoterica America triality was designed for this era and to defend against what happened in 1900s structuralism as higher ed merged with beacracy hierarchical dualism formed stole simplicity and unification at the top pushing infinite degrees of complexity down upon the many. They flipped America this hybridization the past 80 years and especially 40 years isnt very capitalistic lol. Finance capitalism is code for we fucked you all over good. Selling usa in 80s was great for boomers only lol So legally the new infrastructure ai safety grid locally owned fuse like breaker box private sector medium density king of our own castle useing tech to overcome handicaps to live out our dreams through a choice of labor is within reach and if done right the only thing that may make for the wrong passed on to current gens. Maybe gen x can have a more fruitful retirement as a result for young poverty

Even in right to work our wages, house and everything is set by class of peers. Nothing is individual merit based .nothing individual based but law ,debt, perpetual payments, insurance, taxation you need a permit for a wet banana summer water slide for kids if isn't zoning violation. Globalist love cheap asian labor in 80s up till today.800 million still live terriblky while the few live large in China just as uk & usa. This is a key component in what happens in America in concert with mass illegal & legal immigration driving down wage while also removing 18-27 year old most productive ages of all to toil away in antiquated consolidated higher ed thats scientifically studying nilhism lol 30 yeas ago unions, publishers, education couldve full filled goals of megjng into online coops subcontracted out skills and trade isolated entire markets in one domain where no one can hustle the other. Refusing to properly innovate and take higher ed to the population more efficiently getting them into the feilds younger. Its all waiting to be forced just as globalist plantation owners chose cheap slave labor over Jethro tulls plow until it was physically forced. Trucking tech and logistics took 70 years to be ripped from the dieing hands of elitist and unions to finally be handed to citizens so they could work ,save buy becoming owner operators of skills and trade . We are so socialized from housing to farming its just one step from full on naturalization. Only A deed stands in the way. Usa gov dictates who makes what when where how, who gets access to patents & loans. From south korea to Taiwan. Jeff bezzo to elon..harvard to nasa.. Welfare and grants massive 1900s structuralism expansionism of agencies and institutions that computation is ready to replace but they all try and deflect and delay over innovate .

If we struggle to keep this planet alive I doubt we can make Mars livable. I can only think of two situations in which the idea makes sense: 1. Avoiding catastrophic risk from something like a meteor, nuclear war, Yellowstone explosion, pandemic, etc. 2. If we learn something from the experience that helps us be better stewards of the earth (perhaps when we see how insanely difficult it is).

I agree with you. However, we could do much more to change the dominant economic system. By consuming less, working less, and following a different set of socio-cultural values, we could have a happier and more meaningful life. The question is: When will the majority of citizens realize that we have to implement a steady-state, social and ecological, circular, eco-socialist economy, decommodify society, apply MMT, create universal public services, and do everything else essential to create a genuinely sustainable system? If you haven't interviewed Michael Hudson yet, I encourage you to invite him.
